Figure 2: The Coconut Palm Wine Tapper being Baptised
It all started with one of the Coastal DMM leaders from a Muslim background and a former Madrassa teacher who started engaging his neighbors.
After coming to Christ the Madrassa teacher was very fearful that he and his family could not practice church at their own house instead they could walk very far in order to join other believers for worship. After encouraging, coaching and a lot of mentoring was done to him, they gained courage and started doing and practising church in their house. Though they went through a lot of mockery, discrimination and even persecutions, it came with opportunities where some of the neighbours started admiring and asking questions about their new faith in Christ.
That’s when the coconut palm wine tapper got an opportunity to interact with them. As they were in a process of introducing him and his family to DBS, the wife of the wine tapper who was expecting a baby and the days of delivery were near, she gave birth to a baby girl who developed complications on the umbilical cord which was bleeding for days. As they were seeking and looking for way out the Coastal DMM Coach visited the village to see how they were doing and he was told the story of the new family and the problem of the new born baby.
That’s when the Coastal DMM Coach encouraged the guy who had engaged the family to go and pray for the new born baby and after prayers the baby got healed. The father who is a coconut palm wine tapper saw what happened and he immediately said that he has already believed in Christ who healed their baby and his whole family including wife and children came to Christ. The father also decided to lead his family by example in being baptised first. The wife and children are yet to be baptised.
EQUIPPING LEADERS
A movement is only as strong as the leaders who carry it. This season, that conviction sent our teams into hubs, classrooms, and living rooms across the country — not simply to teach information, but to form the kind of leaders who reproduce themselves in others.
In Marsabit, the launch of the DMM Level 1 Training Hub on 9th April marked a genuine milestone: for the first time, local believers have a permanent home for learning foundational Disciple Making Movement principles, practicing Discovery Bible Study, and raising up new leaders. Beyond the training itself, the hub gives the region a lasting platform for leadership development and multiplication in the years ahead. At the Kisumu Hub on 8th May, leaders explored biblical generosity as a cornerstone of Christlike leadership — not just financial giving, but the sharing of time, skills, hospitality, and the Gospel itself, equipped to model a generosity that strengthens relationships and fuels multiplication. The Kericho Hub turned, on 12th May, to stewardship investing in people through giving, serving, and sharing the Gospel in ways that create lasting Kingdom impact far beyond material resources, challenging participants to embrace generosity as a daily discipline rather than an occasional gesture.
FROM LIVESTOCK CARETAKER TO MOVEMENT LEADER .
Lotolim was an ordinary livestock caretaker in West Pokot with little knowledge of God’s Word. When we first met him, we shared the gospel and invited him to join a Discovery Bible Study. He eagerly listened, accepted the message, and became part of the group.
As he continued studying the Bible, Lotolim grew in his faith and became actively involved in the local church. His passion for sharing the gospel with others soon became evident, and he was entrusted with leadership responsibilities. Today, he serves as one of the church’s leaders. His commitment to making disciples has already borne fruit. Lotolim has started four Discovery Bible Study groups, helping others encounter God’s Word and begin their own journey of faith.
One of the most significant moments in his discipleship journey came when he realized that he, too, could baptize those he had led to Christ.
FROM ONE ENCOUNTER TO TWO ACTIVE DISCOVERIES
While we were on our way, we encountered a woman who was a Christian but had never heard about the Disciple Making Movement. We took time to speak with her and share about the importance of making disciples. Through our conversation, she realized that making disciples is not only the responsibility of pastors or church leaders It is a calling and responsibility for all believers.
She was so encouraged by what she heard that she invited us to her home. There, we met her husband and shared the same message with him. He also understood the importance of disciple making and saw the value of starting a Discovery Bible Study in their home. As a result, a Discovery began meeting there.
One of her friends, who had previously been attending the Discovery but had to travel a long distance to participate, was also inspired. She decided to start a Discovery in her own home so that others could join more easily.
Today, there are two active Discovery Bible Studies, meeting weekly to discover God’s Word together, grow as disciples, and reach others with the same message.
HOPE AND DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE MIDST OF CRISIS
In Lotubae, the community experienced a tragic attack in which many people were injured and some lost their lives. In response, we sent a team of three people to visit the area, encourage the affected families, and understand the situation on the ground. When we arrived, we found many people seriously injured, and approximately 60 people had been left homeless.
As we moved through the area, we encountered a man sitting under the shade of a tree, waiting for others to join him for a traditional game called Apei Arei. When he saw us, he asked, “Are you new here?” We told him that we were, and this opened the door for a deeper conversation.
As we talked, we introduced him to the concept of making disciples and shared with him about the importance of helping others discover and follow God’s Word. What began as a simple encounter with a man waiting to play a game became an opportunity to share the message of disciple making in a community that was going through a very difficult time.
This encounter reminded us that even in the midst of crisis and uncertainty, God can open unexpected doors for the Gospel and for making disciples.
